Its capital is Castell n de la Plana (ca: Castell de la Plana). The province has a population of 501,237 (2002), of whom 30% reside in the capital.
It is a bilingual territory, with almost all inhabitants speaking Spanish, and very many also speaking the locally-official Valencian language.

We specialise in property on the northern stretch of the Costa Azahar from the border with Catalunya in the north to Peñiscola and Alcocebre in the south.
With the new airport of Castellon due to open in one to two years time, new golf developments, a new marina near Peniscola etc. there is going to be more demand by foreigners in the future and prices could well catch up with those on the Costa Brava and Costa Blanca.
Thanks to excellent train and motorway-links Castellonprovince and the Costa Azahar are therefore a convenient location for day trips to Barcelona and Valencia as well as for short-trips to France or skiing-holidays, i.e.
