Premier Soccer League is the trading name of the National Soccer League of South Africa, also known by its initials (PSL). The PSL's is divided into two leagues. The top league is the Castle Premiership, sponsored by Castle Lager, whose annual champion qualifies for the CAF Champions League. The secondary league is the Mvela Golden League, sponsored by business magnate Tokyo Sexwale's Mvelaphanda Holdings. Castle lager is one of the oldest commercial beers in South Africa, named after the Castle Brewery where its made, founded by Charles Glass in Johannesburg in 1894. ... The bottom team in the Castle Premiership is automatically relegated, and the team finishing second-last competes in a play-off with the teams finishing 2nd, 3rd and 4th in the Mvela Golden League.

Mamelodi Sundowns were chosen for the Castle Premiership Finest Moment of the Season for the Sundowns goal in the 2-1 win over Kaizer Chiefs on 3 February — a goal that involved a total of 44 passes in the build up.
The Castle Premiership Referee of the Season Award went to Abdul Ebrahim, who won R25 000, whilst Toko Malebo was chosen as the Assistant Referee of the Season, taking home R20 000.
