History

Castle Rock was officially incorporated on June 20, 1890.


Geography

Castle Rock is located at 46°16'26" North, 122°54'18" West (46.273991, _122.904916)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 3.4 km˛ (1.3 mi˛). 3.4 km˛ (1.3 mi˛) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 2,130 people, 833 households, and 562 families residing in the city. The population density is 618.3/km˛ (1,597.3/mi˛). There are 890 housing units at an average density of 258.4/km˛ (667.4/mi˛). The racial makeup of the city is 93.19% White, 0.23% African American, 2.02% Native American, 0.28% Asian, 0.38% Pacific Islander, 1.64% from other races, and 2.25% from two or more races. 3.33% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 833 households out of which 33.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 46.3% are married couples living together, 16.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 32.5% are non-families. 28.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 13.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.53 and the average family size is 3.07.


In the city the population is spread out with 29.4% under the age of 18, 7.5% from 18 to 24, 26.9% from 25 to 44, 22.7% from 45 to 64, and 13.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 86.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 83.5 males.


The median income for a household in the city is $37,212, and the median income for a family is $44,125. Males have a median income of $38,289 versus $25,000 for females. The per capita income for the city is $15,661. 17.3% of the population and 10.7% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 20.9% of those under the age of 18 and 7.5% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
