History
Established by Joche Phillppe Wu of the Marist Brothers in 1956, Catholic High School started as a private Chinese school with 2 classes for boys. It began operating in the afternoon session, sharing the same premise with La Salle Primary School in Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur. The first principal was Rev. Bro. Phillipe Wu. Due to an increase in student population and lack of school facilities in La Salle Primary School, Catholic High School were then moved to Maxwell Secondary School. However, teachings were still in the afternoon. At the same time, School-Building Planning Committee was formed to initiate a building of its own for the school. Hence, The Government approved and allocated a piece of land in Cheras. However, the committee decided not to build a school on the piece of land allocated. Later than in 1958, the committee purchased a piece of land in Petaling Jaya that spanned 10 acres with the money collected from a fund-raising project. A new two story building with 20 classrooms was constructed. In the same year, Rev. Bro. Philippe Wu was promoted to Brother Provincial, therefore the leadership of the school was passed to Rev. Bro. Dominic Liu. In 1959, the first batch of students sat for the LCE Examination. Rev. Bro. Dominic Liu expanded the school by building a block of science laboratory and library. In 1961, the first batch of Form 5 students sat for S.C/F.M.C Examination and thus the graduation of CHS pioneer batch of students. In 1962, the school's leadership was again passed down to Rev. Bro. Lawrence Tung. During his tenure as principal, the school purchased 2 buses for co-curicular use and improvements were made to the school field. In accordance of Education Act of 1961, Catholic High School became a conforming school and changed it's name to SMJK Katholik. However, the name Catholic High School still remains in use. From 1963 until 2005, the school saw a rapid expansion in terms of facilities and students population. Several new blocks of class rooms were erected; new hall, canteen, sports facilities and laboratories were built. In 1984, the school became a co-educational school. The following year, the Form Six Classes opened its door to female students. In 1989, the appointment of Mr. Cheok Cheo Foh marked the end of the Marist Brothers as principal of school. In 2001, Madame Tan Lin became the First Lady Principal of Catholic High School suceeding Mr. Lee Kim Tian who was an influential figure in enhancing the school's reputation and academic achievements. During her tenure as principal, the security of the school was tightened and minor discipline issues were also emphasize. This included installing Closed-circuit television, automatic pole gate at the entrance, introducing new rules and measures to ensure the safety of 3350 students of CHS. Furthermore, the school hall was upgraded and air conditioning system was installed. Surveillance cameras. ...

Music Catholic High School Band was established in 1982 under the patronage of Bro. Paul Sung - the former principal of Catholic High School. This young and talented band started off as a marching band with 30 members with Mr. Xavier Anthony as the first band tutor. For many years the band has worked hard and developed tremendously, with a steady increase of band members, music instruments, and modern facilities, courtesy of the generous donations of the public as well as the Parents and Teachers Association of Catholic High School. Catholic High School Band been invited and requested to hold numerous performances since its birth, for example Music Festival held in Spain 2001, but the greatest achievement was to be declared champion in the 2000 and 2005 National High School Marching Band Competition - Selangor's greatest pride ever and 6 years of Selangor Sate Marching Competition Champion as well. Currently at the age of 25, Catholic High School Band is still blossoming with each passing year. The band has come a long way, bracing itself for a higher standard, striving for greater success and in years to come, Catholic High School Band will only aim for the best. The lengthy and extremely noisy training sessions are a bother to the neighbourhood of the school. Even though explicit laws regarding noise pollution exist in Malaysia, the school violates them regularly without the authorities to take appropriate action.
