Catupiry ('cah-too-pee-REE' with a flipped 'r') is a very popular cheese in Brazil. It is so soft as to actually have a texture and appearance much like that of mashed potatoes, for which it sometimes mistaken for by unknowing tourists. It does not have a particularly strong flavor.

It is commonly used as a filling (together with shredded chicken) in the ubiquitous coxinhas at snack bars, used as an element in main dishes, or sometimes as an extra topping on pizza.
