Biography

Cave In was born as the brain child of Jay Frechette and Steve Brodsky back in early 1995. With the first line up set, Jay Frechette on vocals, Steve Brodsky on guitar & vocals, Adam McGrath on 2nd guitar, JR Connors on drums and Justin Matthes on bass. They would soon release a demo and a handful of split 7" releases with with bands like Gambit, Piebald and Early Grace. Finally in 96-97 Cave In would release their very own S/T 7" on Hydra Head. Now with their own 7" under their belt, the band would embark on it's very first 3 week East Coast tour. That first tour would soon be cut a week short due to Jay Frechette's prior obligations to join and tour with bostons own Ten Yard Fight 1997 Back On Track tour playing guitar. Ater Jay returned home from a month on tour with Ten Yard Fight it was a mutual decision on both sides for Jay to leave Cave In and play guitar for TYF full time. This would be the time when replacement singer for Jay, Dave Scrod would step in for a short lived time. In 1998 most songs from Cave In's earlier 7" releases and recording were compiled together for the band's first long-form record for Hydra Head Records, Beyond Hypothermia. Ten Yard Fight is a straight edge, football based,old school hardcore from Boston, Massachusetts. ... Two weeks before the band was to record their second full-length, Dave left the band forcing guitarist Steven Brodsky to perform vocals for the release. The second album,Until Your Heart Stops was Brodsky's first as lead vocalist. The album's release was followed by extensive touring. In 2000, the band released Jupiter.Jupiter received a good deal of press. The band was featured in Spin Magazine's "Sound Advice" section, where their new sound was described as "emo-metal Radiohead." The band released a final six-song EP for Hydra Head entitled Tides of Tomorrow, with an even further-expanded melodic approach, before moving on to RCA Records. In 2003 the band released Antenna, their debut for RCA. Antenna had more success than previous albums and Cave In was chosen to play the second stage on the 2003 Lollapalooza tour.
