Cedar Crest is a census-designated place located in Bernalillo County, New Mexico. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 1,060.


Geography

Cedar Crest is located at 35°6'26" North, 106°22'25" West (35.107145, _106.373543)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 8.5 km˛ (3.3 mi˛). 8.5 km˛ (3.3 mi˛) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 1,060 people, 470 households, and 322 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 125.2/km˛ (323.9/mi˛). There are 501 housing units at an average density of 59.2/km˛ (153.1/mi˛). The racial makeup of the CDP is 86.89% White, 1.23% African American, 1.42% Native American, 1.13% Asian, 0.09% Pacific Islander, 6.89% from other races, and 2.36% from two or more races. 19.81% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 470 households out of which 23.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.7% are married couples living together, 8.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 31.3% are non-families. 26.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 5.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.22 and the average family size is 2.64.


In the CDP the population is spread out with 19.2% under the age of 18, 4.6% from 18 to 24, 27.1% from 25 to 44, 36.0% from 45 to 64, and 13.0% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 45 years. For every 100 females there are 103.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 96.3 males.


The median income for a household in the CDP is $50,865, and the median income for a family is $62,054. Males have a median income of $42,400 versus $28,500 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $27,263. 7.6% of the population and 5.1% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 2.1% of those under the age of 18 and 10.3% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
