This article has been tagged since September 2006. A celebrity feud is when two celebrities engage in a public disagreement, often insulting each other or otherwise putting the other person down. Although generally a genuine reaction to some insult or putdown from the other side, the use of celebrity feuds as a source of publicity has not gone unnoticed by management. Celebrity feuds can become extremely emotionally charged, and have lead to the death of one or both of the feuders before. Feuds are most common in the music industry, and rarest in the television and movie industry. Some well known feuds include: - Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G., which lead to the deaths of both men (though that is subject to intense debate).
- Eminem: Eminem is known for feuding publicly, often using his songs to insult and putdown opponents. He has had personal feuds with Triumph, the Insult Comic Dog (referred to in Ass Like That), Moby, Christina Aguilera (who threatened to sue him), Limp Bizkit, *NSYNC, Britney Spears, Will Smith, and Mariah Carey (who also threatened to sue him). His Shady Records group (consisting of him, Dr. Dre and 50 Cent) also has a running feud with Ja Rule and Murder Inc. Records, although he has called for a ceasefire in one of his recent songs (Like Toy Soldiers), worried that the conflict might escalate to the level of the Tupac and B.I.G. feud.
- Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera, both one-time members of Disney's Mousketeer's Club. The feud began after both began their pop careers at around the same time. The two have since reconciled differences.
- Lindsay Lohan and Hilary Duff, both trying to carve a niche in the young adult acting-singing-entertaining category, and both romantically linked up with Aaron Carter.
- After the breakup of the Beatles, John Lennon and Paul McCartney feuded for a short time. After Paul referred to John in one of his songs, Lennon wrote How do you sleep? on his Imagine album, accusing McCartney of being a mamma's boy, surrounding himself with phonies, and alleging that his music style was copied from Lennon's. The feud did not last, and the two were friends at the time of Lennon's death in 1980. Subsequently, Paul and John's widow, Yoko Ono, have feuded occasionally. The height of the feud came when a last minute decision on Yoko's side prevented the two from buying back the Beatles' music catalogue, which was bought up by Michael Jackson.
- Vince Neil and Axl Rose: This feud began after Guns N' Roses rhythm guitarist Izzy Stradlin physically assaulted and made disparaging remarks to Sharise, Vince's girlfriend at the time. At the MTV music awards, Vince beat up Stradlin, knocking him unconscious with his fist. Axl Rose then began a press campaign against Neil, saying he would fight him, any time, any place. Vince said "Bring it the fuck on!" Several fight dates were scheduled but each time Axl never showed up. The offer is still intact today.
- Tyra Banks and Naomi Campbell: This feud stemmed from battles of being the number one black supermodel in the modeling industry and went on for over a decade. The two have since made up.
- Hilary Duff and Alicia Silverstone: Both Silverstone and Duff attended an Aerosmith concert in March 2004. According to sources, Duff didn't like being near Silverstone and reportedly sneared at Silverstone before leaving with her friends. Silverstone's rep never commented.
- Mischa Barton and Kimberly Stewart, both romantically linked up with Cisco Adler
- Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie, both stars of popular reality show The Simple Life and best friends. Both are launching into similar careers, and split as friends between the shooting of seasons 3 and 4, causing producers to have to setup new situations in which the two did not appear on camera together in season 4. Neither ever really commented on what exactly happened between them, however Hilton hinted in interviews and episodes of The Simple Life that fame went to Richie's head, and changed her. The two have since made up, and agreed to shoot season 5 together.
- Victoria Beckham and Jordan. Jordan blamed Victoria for the end of her relationship with popstar Dane Bowers, as he seemed infatuated with Victoria after dueting with her. Jordan later said Victoria was a bad influence for young children. Victoria responded by calling her "vile" on camera in a documentary. Jordan also claimed that while at a football match, Victoria and a friend insultingly sang Who Let The Dogs Out at her. Jordan, in her first book, said she believed Victoria jealous of her looks. Jordan has also made unnesessary light in the press of the rumours that David cheated on Victoria. However, Victoria has since said Jordan was welcome at one of her parties, and Jordan has also given Victoria some praise, such as referring to her as a style icon that noone should knock, and saying her new hairstyle is "lovely and really suits her" suggesting the bad blood between them has calmed.
- Madonna and Mariah Carey were caught in a feud back in 1995. Nasty comments about one another were exchanged back and forth for years, but the two have since made up. Mariah was quoted as saying, "She's a legend. She's been around a long time and I'm happy for her."
- Donald Trump and Rosie O'Donnell are allegedly currently engaged in a feud, but specifics on the feud have not yet been disclosed.
