Plot

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

Jessica (played by Basinger), a high-school biology teacher, is taken from her home by five assailants, and is taken to an unknown location. Not knowing anything about her abductors (one of whom is played by Statham), she puts together a broken telephone and manages to call a random number in an attempt to save herself.


Ryan (played by Evans), answers the call, and begins searching all over Los Angeles to try to find Jessica, who informs him that the kidnappers are after her husband and son next. Ryan has to avoid everything that might make the signal break, such as tunnels or bridges. This article is about the largest city in California. ...


William H. Macy plays a detective, Mooney, whom Ryan encounters when he visits a police station at one point.

Thrust into a world of corruption and murder, Ryan has to piece together the identities of the faceless woman’s abductors while also trying to ascertain exactly what it is they are after, all while trying to keep their tenuous cell phone connection, and only point of contact, alive.
Thanks to them, even when the movie goes a bit beyond silly it still remains engaging, and I can’t imagine that would even remotely be the case without this talented group in front of the camera.
In fact, one of the chief defects of “Cellular” isn’t that it’s familiar or easy to predict the twists and turns, it is that Ellis and Morgan are so struck on telegraphing them.
