  • Some mention needs to be made of the constant confusion regarding the pronunciation of this word. 'Celtic' is pronounced with a hard 'c' sound, what English speakers would think of as a 'k' sound. Irish Gaelic has no letter 'k', because it never needed one. The letter 'c' represented the hard 'c' sound, with no soft alternate. The soft 'c' is a Latin conceit, later adopted by the newer English language, and should have no bearing on the word 'Celtic'. It may be too late to save Boston's basketball team, which is a trademark, though a mispronunciation, but any other mention of the word 'Celtic' should be pronounced correctly, and argument made to those who would do otherwise. The Glasgow football club, traditionally supported by Irish Scots, is also curiously pronounced "Seltik." There have been rumors of two meanings behind Celtic, and "Seltic" (in pronunciation): Celtic as a Scottish lineage, and Seltic as a Norse lineage. This distinction is largely unfounded, so disregard those rumors as you come across them.
