Cement City is a village in the U.S. state of Michigan. It is situated on the boundary between Jackson County and Lenawee County and lies partially within both. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 452.


Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 2.4 km˛ (0.9 mi˛). 2.3 km˛ (0.9 mi˛) of it is land and 0.1 km˛ (0.04 mi˛) of it is water. The total area is 4.40% water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 452 people, 162 households, and 127 families residing in the village. The population density is 198.3/km˛ (514.6/mi˛). There are 174 housing units at an average density of 76.3/km˛ (198.1/mi˛). The racial makeup of the village is 97.57% White, 0.00% African American, 0.44% Native American, 0.22% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 1.77% from two or more races. 1.99% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 162 households out of which 35.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.7% are married couples living together, 10.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 21.6% are non-families. 19.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.6% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.79 and the average family size is 3.19.


In the village the population is spread out with 30.5% under the age of 18, 5.8% from 18 to 24, 27.9% from 25 to 44, 22.8% from 45 to 64, and 13.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 101.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 109.3 males.


The median income for a household in the village is $40,500, and the median income for a family is $42,679. Males have a median income of $32,083 versus $23,125 for females. The per capita income for the village is $17,015. 5.9% of the population and 3.1% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 10.6% of those under the age of 18 and 4.1% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
