The Central Mofussil Bus Terminus (CMBT), which serves as the terminus for all intercity buses from Chennai, is the largest bus station in South Asia.
There are two main railway terminals, Central Station which is the city's largest railway stations with trains to all the major cities and towns in India, and Egmore Station, which serves destinations mainly within Tamil Nadu.

The bus station operates deluxe, express and fast buses to various destinations in Tamil Nadu as well as to the neighboring states of Kerala, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.
