Century High School was originally planned to be named "Eleanor Roosevelt High School," but this suggestion proved to be too controversial. It was thus named "Century High School" to avoid any political connotations [citation needed]. The school was completed and opened in 1997, allowing 9th and 10th grade students to attend the school. In subsequent years 11th and 12th grade students were added. In the following years, a cafeteria was constructed and eventually expanded. Century Sports teams include football, tennis, wrestling, swimming, cross country running, nordic/cross country skiing*, rowing*, soccer, softball, baseball, basketball, golf, hockey, volleyball, and track and field. The Century Boy's Swim and Dive Team has 53 straight dual meet wins as of 1/31/08. The Century varsity hockey team took 3rd in the 2007 MSHSL Hockey tournament. Its home arena is the Rochester Recreational Center. The Century football team completed its first winning season in 2003. The following season in 2004, it was undefeated in the regular season, earning the school its first Big 9 Football Championship. The football team kept the winning tradition going with another Big 9 Championship in 2006 and 2007. The football and soccer teams play on the field on campus. The basketball team plays in a gym which includes 3 basketball courts. Century also has its own all-purpose fitness room in which the wrestling team practices.
