Cernica is a commune in the south-east of Ilfov county, Romania. The Cernica lake is located in Cernica and on the Sf. Gheorghe island is found a mounastery built around 1608. The name of the commune is derived from the name of the vornic Cernica Ştirbei and is of Slavic origin, being derived from černo (meaning black).
