Chabahar (in Persian چابهار) is an Iranian city and free port on the coast of the Sea of Oman. Chabahar is situated in the Sistan and Baluchestan province of Iran and has a large free trade and industrial zone. In Chabahar is also situated the International University of Chabahar. Persian (known variously as: فارسی Fârsi, local name in Iran, Afghanistan and Tajikistan, پارسی Pârsi, older, local name still used by some speakers, Tajik, a Central Asian dialect, or Dari, another local name in Tajikistan and Afghanistan) is a language spoken in Iran, Tajikistan, Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, Bahrain, Iraq, Azerbaijan, Armenia... A free port (porto franco) or free zone (US: Foreign-Trade Zone) is a port or area with relaxed jurisdiction with respect to the country of location. ... Chabahar is the closest and best access point of Iran to Indian Ocean. For this reason Chabahar is the focal point of Iran for development of the east of Iran through expansion and enhancement of the transit among countries situated in the nortehrn part of Indain Ocean and Central Asia. The hope is that with the development of transit routes, better security and providing transit services, the benefits will reach the area residents.
