Encyclopedia > Chalky

Chocky is a science fiction novel by John Wyndham, author of The Day of the Triffids. In 1984 a children's science fiction television drama based on the novel was shown on ITV in the UK.

All children have imaginary friends but one father becomes rather concerned that his son is a bit old to have an imaginary friend. His concerns deepen as his son becomes increasingly distressed and blames it on arguments with the imaginary friend. But according to his son, it's no imaginary friend but an intangible visitor from another planet.

Television series

The Chocky television series was shown in six episodes between January 9 and February 13, 1984. Two sequels were produced for television, Chocky's Children (six episodes, shown between January 7 and February 11, 1985) and Chocky's Challenge (six episodes, shown between September 29 and October 16, 1985). These sequels were not based on John Wyndham books.

All three series were written by Anthony Read and produced by Thames Television.

chalky halibut pictures (605 words)
Overall, chalkiness ranges from over 10 percent in landings from Washington and Oregon, to around 5 to 10% in landings from Canada, to less than 5% in landings from Alaska.
The causes of chalkiness are not well understood, although it is likely that a combination of factors are involved, including exhaustion in the fish (which increases lactic acid in the flesh, and thus overall acidity of the flesh), water or air temperature when captured, and the handling routine on the fishing vessel.
The problem of chalkiness is increased by the fact that the condition may take from 3 to 7 days after death to develop in the flesh.

Chalky and Shirt, therefore, were left to fork out a ridiculous £16.99 for the privilege of meeting Maureen O'Brien.
Chalky chortled politely with Miss O'Brien as she discovered that his name requests for the items he had brought to be signed were not as simple as she might expect (being that one of them was for the absent Lupine).
Chalky had a photo whilst he tried to think of much comedy in Morbius (something Dufus would be quick to argue later from his 'Hinchcliffe was the god of Doctor Who' soapbox (yawn)).
