Channel Islands Beach is a census-designated place located in Ventura County, California. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 3,142.


Geography

Channel Islands Beach is located at 34°9'28" North, 119°13'22" West (34.157654, -119.222639)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 1.0 km˛ (0.4 mi˛). 1.0 km˛ (0.4 mi˛) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 3,142 people, 1,362 households, and 784 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 3,032.8/km˛ (7,944.3/mi˛). There are 1,758 housing units at an average density of 1,696.9/km˛ (4,445.0/mi˛). The racial makeup of the CDP is 90.39% White, 1.11% African American, 0.45% Native American, 1.91% Asian, 0.22% Pacific Islander, 2.93% from other races, and 2.99% from two or more races. 9.29% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 1,362 households out of which 24.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 41.9% are married couples living together, 10.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 42.4% are non-families. 26.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 4.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.31 and the average family size is 2.72.


In the CDP the population is spread out with 18.1% under the age of 18, 7.1% from 18 to 24, 39.1% from 25 to 44, 26.3% from 45 to 64, and 9.4% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 38 years. For every 100 females there are 107.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 108.9 males.


The median income for a household in the CDP is $58,306, and the median income for a family is $60,577. Males have a median income of $53,083 versus $39,946 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $34,088. 7.3% of the population and 6.2% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 9.0% of those under the age of 18 and 1.3% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
