Recently,musical genres such as Hardcore, Grindcore, and other aggressive forms of music have adopted this concept. Many times during a 'breakdown' (the segment of the song where the time signature is half counted or significantly slowed in some way) The singer will recite a chant, the object of this is to get everyone involved and create a feeling of passion throughout the room causing overall reaction to the music, including pits, to be more intense. Some bands have more meaningful chants that incite philosophies and such whereas other bands use more whimsical and even humorous chants. For instance, Houston, Texas local band, Dead Before Dusk has a chant on their song, "Stand Up" which is as follows: "Stand up. Live strong. These memories will never be forgotten..." Where as another local band from Houston known as Dead Texas uses a chant on their song, "Good day for a hanging", which merely says "Fuck your meatloaf."
