Adler was born into a prominent Yiddish family of actors headed by her famous father, the actor Jacob Adler.
Born in New York City, Adler was a member of the Jewish-American Adler acting dynasty, the daughter of Sara and Jacob P. Adler, and the sister of Luther Adler, Jay Adler, and CharlesAdler.
Adler believed when she met Brando that he would be the best American actor in theater before the end of the year.
Adler built his business on volume photography, hiring road crews to travel to Alabama, Georgia and South Carolina selling $1 coupons for photo sessions: 50 cents went to the salesmen, and 50 cents to the photographers.
Adler spoke often of his years at Oberlin College, class of 1929, crediting the integrated liberal arts campus for his passion for civil rights and responsibility.
Adler is survived by his son, Robert, and a daughter, Karen Adler Shapira of Pittsburgh, and five grandchildren.
