Michel was practicing in St. Louis, Missouri when he began using a battery-powered needle epilator to treat trichiasis (ingrown eyelashes) in 1869. This direct current powered method was called electrolysis because a chemical reaction in the hair follicle causes sodium hydroxide to form, which damages the follicle. Charles Michels is a station of the Paris Métro, named after the Place Charles Michels.
"Beaugrenelle" (beautiful Grenelle) was a name given by property developers in the district of Grenelle during its urbanisation and it was renamed after Charles Michels (1903-1941), who was elected as a Communist Député of the 15th arrondissement of Paris.
He was arrested in 1940 and then shot by the Nazis on October 22, 1941 with 26 other hostages, including Guy Môquet (also the name of a metro station) and Jean-Pierre Timbaud, in Châteaubriant, (Loire-Atlantique).

Charles MICHELS was born 1803 in Minden, Prussia, learned the flsmith's trade, and in 1829 he married Arnoldine KOETTERS.
Arnold MICHELS, born January 23, 1838, in Westland, Westphalia, was the eldest son of Charles and Arnoldine (KOETTERS) MICHELS, and came to Quincy with his parents, learning the carpenters trade.
From 1862 to 1873 Arnold MICHELS was busy as carpenter and contractor; then he conducted a brickyard until 1877, when he went to farming for four years; in 1892 he opened a wagon maker's shop at Columbus in this county, and in 1896 returned to Quincy, where he resided until his death, October 14, 1910.
