He made his film debut in Russ Meyer's Cherry, Harry & Raquel! (1970). Napier went on to appear in several Meyer movies, including the homicidal Harry Sledge in Supervixens (1975). Napier also is a regular in Jonathan Demme-directed movies, including Silence of the Lambs. Some of Napier's memorable roles include an intelligence officer after Rambo in Rambo: First Blood Part II (1985) and the short-tempered front man of the Good Old Boys in The Blues Brothers (1980). His role in the Charles Bronson film Hard Times was cut from the final print. He also provided some of the growls for 70's television series The Incredible Hulk, the others done by Ted Cassidy, the actor who portrayed Lurch on the Adams Family.
