Charles Thone (born January 4, 1924) is an AmericanRepublican politician. A native of Hartington, Nebraska, he graduated from the University of Nebraska Law School. During World War II, he served in the Infantry and Field Artillery Corps. United States Army. From 1954 to 1970, he served as Administrative Assistant to U.S. Senator Roman Hruska. He served as Governor of Nebraska from 1979 to 1983 and represented the first Congressional district of Nebraska in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1971 until his election as Governor. He was defeated for reelection as Governor in 1982. In the 1992presidential election, he cast one of the state's five electoral votes for President George H. W. Bush.
