Since Charles Dawes's mother had graduated from Marietta College and his father was on its Board of Trustees, it was almost inevitable that he would enroll there.
He received his bachelor's degree in 1884 at the age of nineteen, studied for two years in the Law School of the University of Cincinnati, and returned to Marietta to earn a master's degree.
