She is the second child of vaudeville actress, Rita Oehmen, and musician Michael Farnon. Soon after filming the Sound of Music, she married Jay Brent and had two daughters, Jennifer and Emily. The marriage lasted until 1991. She started an interior decorating company whose clients include Michael Jackson. Charmian: The producer told me: "There was a nursing home in Scotland in a little town called Inverness and the head nurse was trying to think of things to do for the patients to help the afternoons go by more quickly and she had this idea of going to the store and renting Hollywood musicals.
Charmian: I don't watch it every single time depending on what kind of publicity things I have to do, but I always like to stay to watch the beginning because there's generations out there that have never seen this film on the big screen.
Charmian: In the beginning, they didn't really like the movie because it wasn't exactly true, but they do like the movie now because of all it's done for them with their lodge.
