The Chartered Institute of Taxation is the leading body for tax professionals in the United Kingdom.
Membership is awarded on passing the Institute's examination and completing 3 years' practical UK taxation experience. Members may use the letters CTA (Chartered Tax Adviser), formerly ATII (Associate of the Taxation Institute Incorporated).
Fellowship is available following the submission of a thesis or a body of work. Fellow members may use the letters CTA(Fellow), formerly FTII, after their name to indicate fellowship.

The Institute recognised a demand both in and outside the UK for a specialist Diploma to meet the needs of international tax practitioners in the Corporate area, and in 2003 introduced the Advanced Diploma in International Taxation.
