Chatfield's athletic rival is Columbine. Chatfield is notable as the alma mater of Katie Hnida, a female American football kicker who played at the University of Colorado at Boulder and later at the University of New Mexico. Hnida was the principal kicker for Chatfield's football team during her senior year. Chatfield has also produced well-known athletes such as LenDale White, and Chris Crosby and Robbie McEwen and Zac Robinson. Chatfield's football team in 2001, led by Coach Dave Logan, defensive tackle Robbie McEwen, and running back LenDale White won the State Championship. In 2001 Chatfield's football team was undefeated and nationally ranked. Chatfield's Marching Band is among the top in state each year, having placed 4th in 2000, 7th in 2005, and 10th at the 2006 competition. Chatfeild's Pom Squad also took 1st in league for the 2006-2007 year as well as 3rd at the NDA nationals in Florida.
