Woodland Township is a township located in eastern Burlington County, New Jersey. As of the 2000 census, the township had a total population of 1,170. The township is located in Pinelands National Reserve, north of the Wharton State Forest. It includes the unincorporated community of Chatsworth, which is the postal address for most of the residents of the township.


Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 249.6 km˛ (96.4 mi˛). 248.5 km˛ (95.9 mi˛) of it is land and 1.2 km˛ (0.4 mi˛) of it is water. The total area is 0.47% water.


Woodland Township borders Pemberton Township, Southampton Township, Tabernacle Township, Washington Township, Bass River Township, and Ocean County.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 1,170 people, 425 households, and 323 families residing in the township. The population density is 4.7/km˛ (12.2/mi˛). There are 448 housing units at an average density of 1.8/km˛ (4.7/mi˛). The racial makeup of the township is 98.03% White, 0.60% African American, 0.09% Native American, 0.34% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.17% from other races, and 0.77% from two or more races. 1.20% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 425 households out of which 35.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.5% are married couples living together, 8.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 24.0% are non-families. 19.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 5.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.75 and the average family size is 3.15.


In the township the population is spread out with 25.8% under the age of 18, 7.3% from 18 to 24, 31.3% from 25 to 44, 27.9% from 45 to 64, and 7.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 38 years. For every 100 females there are 99.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 101.9 males.


The median income for a household in the township is $59,271, and the median income for a family is $65,972. Males have a median income of $43,654 versus $31,765 for females. The per capita income for the township is $26,126. 2.9% of the population and 2.0% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 2.9% of those under the age of 18 and 4.0% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
