Reyes joined Black Flag after Keith Morris quit to form the Circle Jerks. After a few months, Reyes quit Black Flag during a live performance (for the remainder of the show, the band invited audience members onstage to take turns singing "Louie Louie". Reyes was coaxed back into Black Flag long enough to record "Jealous Again" (he also appeared on some selections later included on Everything Went Black). After the recording sessions, Reyes was fired, and as a final parting shot, he was credited as "Chavo Pederast" on the "Jealous Again" single. He was replaced by singer Dez Cadena. Jealous Again was an EP released by Black Flag in 1980 on SST Records. ... Everything Went Black was an album released in 1983 by Black Flag. ... After leaving Black Flag, Reyes reportedly moved to Puerto Rico to be with his family, and later became a born-again Christian and moved to Vancouver.

The band then recuited former Redd Kross member Chavo Pederast to be their new vocalist; however, guitarist and band leader Greg Ginn felt he was not yet ready to record, and the tapes were put aside for several months.
Pederast later quit the band in the middle of a live performance, derailing the sessions entirely for a second time.
Given that Black Flag's lead singer at the time, Chavo Pederast, was part-Mexican, and that Ginn was a fan of fl jazz and blues artists (including B.B. King, whom he idolized), it is not hard to presume that the song's sentiment is anti-racist.
