Palminteri, a Sicilian/Italian American[2] was born Calogero Lorenzo Palminteri in the Bronx, New York, an area which has had considerable influence on his work, particularly A Bronx Tale, a play which he wrote and adapted into a 1993 film which starred Robert De Niro. The film was acclaimed and opened doors to Palminteri as an actor, and supporting roles in Hollywood films such as The Usual Suspects and Woody Allen's Bullets Over Broadway followed, the latter earning Palminteri an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor nomination. Chazz Palminteri (born May 15, 1952, Bronx, New York) is an Oscar-nominated American actor and writer of Sicilian descent.
Palminteri has appeared in several popular feature films, including A Bronx Tale (which he also wrote), Analyze This, and The Usual Suspects.
Because he had spent the majority of his acting career in small character roles, he sold the play's film rights to Robert DeNiro with the condition that Palminteri himself be allowed to play the role of Machiavellian mafia boss Sonny.
