As is typical of most slasher films of the era, the plot is simple and formuliac, Essentially, the film follows Alison (Russel) at a camp with her boyfriend (Garret), where they encounter a mysterious killer, and their attempts to unravel the murderer's identity.


The reaction to the film was lukewarm. Though most critics felt that the film was enjoyable for what it was, none felt that Cheerleader Camp was especially high-quality, and some have compared it unfavorably to the superficially similiar film Sleepaway Camp. Sleepaway Camp was a 1983 horror movie directed and written by Robert Hiltzik about murders at a summer camp and is considered by many viewers to have the most disturbing ending of all horror films. ...

So anyways, one of the guys is played by 70's teen idol Leif Garrett and the other guy is 'the fat one.' Moving along, one of the girl's is sorta established as the focus, name's aren't really important here, so we'll just call her 'that girl.' So...
So anyways, there's a lot of cheerleading practice (they need all the practice they can get), a really bad onscreen rap (that even rivals the classic bad rap "Top That" of Teen Witch), some sort of a dance, and eventually a cheerleading competition.
All the while a couple of cheerleaders are knocked off in gruesome fashion, while that girl does what she does best...wanders around looking shocked and frightened.
