An order of Reptiles, called the "Crown Group". Its distinctive characteristic is that part of its vertebrae, ribs, and sternum unite with its dermal plates so as to form a firm shell. The jaws are covered by a horny beak. Testudines, today’s turtles, pushed many other groups to the side during its evolution, however, to a certain extent, the Chelonia are still going strong.
Also, the genus of turtle to which the Green Sea Turtle belongs.
Chelonia have two ventral vena cavae which have an anastomosis roughly at the middle of the abdominal plate.
In chelonia the lungs occupy the dorsal section of shell and are adhered to the overlying dermal bones of carapace.
Chelonia do have CO receptors in respiratory tract therefore on recovery often helps to ventilate by mouth because CO has a moderate to major stimulatory effect in many chelonia.
