Cheltenham is a suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. It is shared between the Local Government Areas of the City of Bayside and City of Kingston. Cheltenham is approximately 21 km south-east from Melbourne's central business district, postcode 3192. As a suburb, it was established in the 1880s. Much of the residential development was built in the 1940s and continued into the 1980s. Cheltenham also has a large industrial area on the eastern edge and a smaller area at the far western edge. It has been continually expanded over the years resulting in a bridge across Nepean Highway containing shops across it. Cemeteries The Old Cheltenham Cemetery, is located 331 Reserve Road, Cheltenham and was established October 1864. Wandering through the cemetery today, you will find the graves of many of Cheltenham's most distinguished inhabitants.
