Encyclopedia > Chemotherapy regimen

Chemotherapy regimens are often identified with acronyms, identifying the agents used in combination. Unfortunately, the letters used are not consistent across regimens, and in some cases (for example, "BEACOPP") the same letter is used to represent two different treatments. Because of this, there is not a naming standard for chemotherapy regimens, and this page merely represents commonly used conventions.

The term "Induction regimens" refers to a chemotherapy regimen which is used for the initial treatment of a disease.

Chemotherapy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (2266 words)
As chemotherapy affects cell division, tumours with high growth fractions (such as acute myelogenous leukemia and the lymphomas, including Hodgkin's disease) are more sensitive to chemotherapy, as a larger proportion of the targeted cells are undergoing cell division at any time.
Depending on the patient, the cancer, the stage of cancer, the type of chemotherapy, and the dosage, IV chemotherapy may be given on either an inpatient or outpatient basis.
Chemotherapy may be given with a curative intent or it may aim to prolong life or to palliate symptoms.
