Presently it is a tehsil of Udhampur district and although it has some of the best-known religious and tourist places in its vicinity like Patnitop, Sanasar, Gaurikund, Sudh Mahadev and Mantalai, apart from Kud, it is by and large in a neglected condition.
It is possible that Chenani gets its due recognition once Patnitop is developed as a deserving nucleus of pilgrimage tourism.
According to local inhabitants the roads in and around Chenani have been half constructed and, as a result, are in a dilapidated shape.
