Cheney is a city located in Sedgwick County, Kansas. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 1,783.

Demographics As of the census2 of 2000, there are 1,783 people, 664 households, and 476 families residing in the city. The population density is 484.8/km˛ (1,254.2/mi˛). There are 689 housing units at an average density of 187.3/km˛ (484.7/mi˛). The racial makeup of the city is 97.76% White, 0.00% African American, 0.67% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.22% from other races, and 1.35% from two or more races. 1.29% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 664 households out of which 40.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.0% are married couples living together, 7.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 28.3% are non-families. 26.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 13.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.60 and the average family size is 3.17.
