The Rajdhani express is the premier high speed train in India, with maximum speeds of 140 km/h. The train connects the state capitals of various states to the National Capital or "Rajdhani", New Delhi. This train was first started between Howrah (Kolkatta) and New Delhi in the year 1969, followed by another train between Delhi and Mumbai. Today there are over a dozen Rajdhani Express running through the length and breadth of the country. The easternmost Rajdhani is the Gauhati Rajdhani, The northermost, the Jammu Rajdhani, southernmost is the Trivandrum Rajdhani and westermost is the Ahmedabad Rajdhani. Chennai rajdhani is an important train connecting Chennai to New Delhi. It was first introduced in the year 1993 and runs twice a week from Delhi and twice from Chennai. The Chennai Rajdhani is an important reliever for classic train such as Grand Trunk Express and the modern Superfast Tamil Nadu Express. The Chennai Raj covers a distance of 2194 kilometers in just over 28 hours. It is one of the fastest trains in India. It departs from Delhi at 1530 and arrives in Chennai at 2000 the next day. From Chennai it departs at 0620 and arrives in Delhi at 1100 the next day. In spite of this it is an important train and wonderful fast substitute to the overbooked GT and TN express.
