The studio¹s current owners will retain most of the studio equipment, including one of two original Trident consoles and two pairs of custom Augspurger monitors. The other vintage Trident will be put up for sale in the near future. "I'm nostalgic about the end of an era, but I'm in the middle of a movie and have three albums to finish," says Bruce Robb. "So, luckily, I don't have time to get too sentimental right now." The new lofts—a collaboration between the Robb brothers and developers RE-Think Development—will be built with "green" materials and acoustically designed to facilitate home recording. History
Prior to taking control of the MGM Records studio, the Robbs started their first recording studio on a break from touring as The Robbs for ABC Records. It was built in a barn on their ranch in Chatsworth, California with a tree growing through the middle of it. This makes Cherokee Studios, one of the first independent recording studios (one not under the control of a record label) to ever exist. Before this, artists had to work in their label's studio and were often bothered by their record executives while recording. Artists liked the laidback atmosphere and found that the environment found in that barn fostered creativtiy. Under MGM Records Acts that recorded at M.G.M. Recording Studios include: Count Basie[1], Ella Fitzgerald[2], Judy Garland[3], Oscar Peterson, Elvis Presley.[4], and the Nelson Riddle Orchestra.[5] William Count Basie (August 21, 1904 â April 26, 1984) was an American jazz pianist, organist, bandleader, and composer. ...
