Biography

Born (allegedly, see below) to a French father and a Vietnamese mother, she had an unhappy childhood and was sold into slavery. After she killed her master, she was informally adopted by Chinese freedom fighter Weng Chan, who taught her all he knew about guerrilla fighting. She acquired her knoweledge of poisons from Kruen Musenda, a famed African assassin known as the "Spitting Cobra", to whom she was married for the two years prior to his death.


She is a long-standing rival of the Teen Titans. However, when Roy Harper, AKA the superhero Arsenal, went undercover for the government in a mission to get her confidence and turn her over, the two of them fell passionately in love. Knowing he wouldn't be able to turn her in, he walked out and she didn't learn who he was until later. The result of their romance was a daughter, Lian, who's now being raised by Roy. Returning to her mercenary ways after leaving Lian behind for Roy, Jade saved Deathstroke's life so he could help her in stealing nuclear weapons from Russia in an attempt to blackmail the world. Later Cheshire volunteered to join Tartarus, a group created by Vandal Savage with the objective of destroying the Titans. During a confrontation with the Titans and the H.I.V.E, Savage shot Cheshire to distract Arsenal. She recovered, but was taken into custody to pay for her crimes, especially for destroying Qurac. In 2005 she appeared in the miniseries Villains United as a member of the Secret Six. During the series she had relations with Catman and became pregnant. At the end of the miniseries, having betrayed the Six to Lex Luthor's Society, she was shot and critically wounded by Deathstroke, who reasoned that "We don't need any traitors in the Society." Her status remains unknown, but Luthor asked the Society to bring her in if she survived. Cheshire is an absolutely lethal hand-to-hand fighter. In Birds of Prey #63, Black Canary calls her "the second most deadly assassin in the world', only topped by Lady Shiva. Cheshire is one of the new villains appearing in season 5 of the Teen Titans animated series. She resembles her comic incarnation, just apparently younger with a cat mask. She is apparently one of the most skilled of the villains sent by the Brotherhood of Evil to capture the Titans. She uses her long kimono sleeves as a defense (at least against ranged projectiles such as Speedy's arrows) and metal claws as weapons as well as her long hair to pound her adversaries, and is extremely skilled at martial arts as she manages to defeat Speedy in combat and capture him. She later helps in defeating Herald inside the Brotherhood HQ. It is assumed that she was defeated by the Teen Titans and frozen along with her fellow villains in "Titans Together". In the 2006 Secret Six miniseries, (written by Gail Simone with art by Brad Walker and Jimmy Palmiotti), Knockout, who was revealed as a mole infiltrating the Secret Society of Villains in Villains United, has officially joined the group to be with her lover, Scandal.
