Chess Oscar is an international award given to the best chess player every year. The winner is selected by a poll of chess experts across the world, including grandmasters. The award comprises a bronze statuette titled The Fascinated Wanderer. The award had its genesis in 1967 with journalists accredited at chess events voting for the best grandmaster. The awards were given away uninterrupted till the year 1988. Chess is a recreational and competitive game for two players. ... The title Grandmaster is awarded to world-class chess masters by the world chess organization FIDE. Apart from World Champion, Grandmaster is the highest title a chess player can attain. ... The results of the worldwide poll, involving the leading chess writers, critics and journalists from over 50 countries, showed Anand (4150 points) a victor by one of the biggest margins in recent times finishing 1575 points ahead of his nearest rival, Peter Svidler (2575).
