Chester is a town located in Dodge County, Wisconsin. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 960.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 89.1 km² (34.4 mi²). 86.0 km² (33.2 mi²) of it is land and 3.2 km² (1.2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 3.54% water.

Demographics

As of the census² of 2000, there are 960 people, 280 households, and 211 families residing in the town. The population density is 11.2/km² (28.9/mi²). There are 291 housing units at an average density of 3.4/km² (8.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 87.92% White, 9.38% African American, 1.04% Native American, 0.10% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.62% from other races, and 0.94% from two or more races. 3.54% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 280 households out of which 36.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 67.9% are married couples living together, 4.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 24.6% are non-families. 21.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.6% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.62 and the average family size is 3.08.
