Auden, Kallman wrote the libretto for Stravinsky's The Rake's Progress; they also worked together on two librettos for Henze, Elegy for Young Lovers and The Bassarids, and on a number of libretto translations. Kallman also translated the libretto of The Tuscan Players for Chávez, Monteverdi's Poppea , and Verdi's Falstaff.
