Chesterfield Football Club is an English football club based in Chesterfield, Derbyshire. The club currently plays in Football League Two, the fourth tier of English football. Despite being the 4th oldest Football League club in England, they have spent most of their existence in the lower divisions of the English league. The club enjoy a fierce local rivalry with near neighbours Mansfield Town, as well as other rivalries with Notts County, Nottingham Forest, Rotherham United, Sheffield Wednesday, Sheffield United and Doncaster Rovers. Chesterfield play their home games at The Recreation Ground, which is more commonly known as Saltergate after the road on which it is located. It has a capacity of around 8,500, and is the oldest football league ground still in use today. However, the club is planning to build a new ground adjacent to the A61 on the outskirts of the town, on a redeveloped site formerly occupied by the Dema Glass factory. It is expected to be a 10,500 all-seater stadium. Although formal planning permission has not yet been confirmed, the club anticipate the ground will be ready during the 2008-09 season.
