The Town of Chestermere's beginning was in approximately 1884 when men of vision recognized the value of the body of water as a source for an irrigation system. The building of the headworks of an irrigation water supply was the birth of Chestermere Lake. The Summer Village of Chestermere Lake was incorporated on April 1, 1977.


On March 1, 1993, the Town of Chestermere was incorporated. Chestermere is located approximately 20 minutes from the City of Calgary's center core via the TransCanada Highway. Chestermere's primary attraction is a 750 acre lake and 18 hole golf course, matched only by the prairie sunrises and sunsets.


Chestermere Lake offers all residents and visitors summer and winter activity. It provides day use parks for launching boats, and family areas for the enjoyment of the outdoors.


Biking - Chestermere is connected to the Calgary Bike Paths at the south end of West Chestermere Drive (by the canal)


Boat Launch - The Town of Chestermere provides a boat launch facility available to the general public for the launching of power craft at John Peake Memorial Park.

As of 2004, the population was 6,861


Education

The public (secular) schools in the town are Chestermere High School, Chestermere Lake Middle School, and Prairie Waters Elementary School. Public schools in the town are run by the Rocky View School Division, which includes several other communities around (but not in) Calgary.


For publicly funded Catholic education, the town falls within the jurisdiction of the Calgary Catholic School District, which runs the St. Gabriel The Archangel school for grades K-11. The Calgary Catholic School District (CCSD) is the Catholic separate school board in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. ...


Most educational needs beyond this (e.g. post-secondary education) are met within Calgary.
