2007 Pontiac Wave SE/G3 sedan General Motors introduced the Aveo in 2003 as a Chevrolet. Competing as a subcompact car in the US against the Scion xA, the Toyota Yaris, and to a lesser degree the Nissan Versa, the Aveo is manufactured by GM Daewoo and based on the Daewoo Kalos. In markets including the United States and Canada and 2004 in North America, the Aveo replaced the slow-selling Daewoo Lanos (Daewoo's North American lineup lasted only from 1999 to 2002).
