Encyclopedia > Chicago RedEye

This is about the Chicago newspaper; for other meanings, see Redeye.

The RedEye is a daily publication put out by the Chicago Tribune geared towards 18 to 34-year-olds. It was created due to the loss of readership among young people of the Tribune and other major newspapers. Tribune hopes papers like the RedEye, and the Chicago Sun-Times' answer, the Red Streak will pull readers back into their companies and eventually migrate them into the big edition.

The RedEye is published five times a week and pulls its content from the Associated Press, and other newspapers in the Tribune's network such as the Los Angeles Times and the Orlando Sentinel.

Will Trib's new RedEye be read? | Crain's Chicago Business (957 words)
Locally, the most immediate impact of RedEye will be a rekindled newspaper war with the smaller-circulation Chicago Sun-Times, which boasts a higher percentage of young readers than the Trib.
RedEye is built on the assumption that hooking young people requires a paper that speaks directly to them in a voice that this audience—famously skeptical of Corporate America—considers authentic.
While RedEye is as corporate as a publication can be—subjected to rigorous focus-group testing and run by a team of Tribune insiders—it promises to look different from anything the Tribune has produced.
