Chief Auto Parts was a brand of auto parts stores in Tennessee, Texas, Nevada, Arizona, Arkansas and California. It was based in Dallas, Texas and owned by Southland Corporation. Then, the division was sold to GE. Chief was purchased by Memphis based Auto Zone in 1998. The company was founded in 1955 in Norwalk, California. It was purchased by Southland Corporation in 1979, along with Citgo and Movie-Quik. Chief stores were located next to 7-Eleven stores, and were called "convenience stores."
