Chilhowee Park is a neighborhood located in the east end of Knoxville, Tennessee.It was home to many of the workers of Standard Knitting Mills in the early 1900s. Chilhowee Park is also an 80 acre venue that can accommodate multiple events. It has a 4500 seat amphitheater. In the early pat of the 20th century, August 8 of each year was the only day blacks in Knoxville were allowed to visit the park. On Aug. 8, 1863, Tennessee's "military" Gov. Andrew Johnson freed his personal slaves.
