China Lake Acres is a census-designated place located in Kern County, California. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 1,761.


Geography

China Lake Acres is located at 35°38'37" North, 117°45'51" West (35.643513, -117.764261)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 14.4 km˛ (5.6 mi˛). 14.4 km˛ (5.6 mi˛) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 1,761 people, 702 households, and 497 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 122.5/km˛ (317.2/mi˛). There are 847 housing units at an average density of 58.9/km˛ (152.6/mi˛). The racial makeup of the CDP is 89.49% White, 1.25% Black or African American, 0.80% Native American, 0.85% Asian, 0.23% Pacific Islander, 3.86% from other races, and 3.52% from two or more races. 9.37% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 702 households out of which 27.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 55.8% are married couples living together, 11.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 29.1% are non-families. 23.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.51 and the average family size is 2.95.


In the CDP the population is spread out with 25.4% under the age of 18, 5.8% from 18 to 24, 25.2% from 25 to 44, 26.9% from 45 to 64, and 16.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 41 years. For every 100 females there are 100.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 96.6 males.


The median income for a household in the CDP is $35,375, and the median income for a family is $39,408. Males have a median income of $39,643 versus $20,536 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $17,146. 17.2% of the population and 10.5% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 27.7% of those under the age of 18 and 6.0% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
