Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow. Generals The Chinese campaign begins with the People's Liberation Army (PLA), the military wing of the People's Rupublic of China (PRC), parading through the streets of Beijing as part of celebrations. Hundreds of people turned out to cheer for the PLA as they parade in Tiananmen Square and pass the Forbidden City. As the parade passed in front of the forbidden city a small group of Global Liberation Army soldiers launched a surprise attack on the PLA, using suicide cars to destroy advancing PLA armoured columns. Pandemonium erupted as Chinese civilians fled for their lives while the PLA shift from parading through the city to engaging GLA buggies, technicals, rebels, and rocket soldiers. The PLA succeeded in destroying the most of the GLA units in Tiananmen Square when a tractor trailer truck drove into Beijing and detonated its nuclear payload. The blast leveled Beijing, killing nearly everyone in the city, but China's high command swore vengeance on the GLA. PLA troops were ordered to destroy a GLA nuclear weapons bunker just outside the city to prevent the GLA from using nuclear weaponry. With help from Chinese Mig fighters and a handful of surviving tanks the PLA managed to eliminate the nuclear weaponry bunker and the remaining GLA forces. Shortly after the attack a GLA cell in Hong Kong seized control of the "Hong Kong Convention Center" and began using the facility to recruit citizens for the GLA cause. Chinese forces were ordered into Hong Kong to destroy the Convention Center and eliminate the GLA terror cell. Unfortunately, the GLA had anticipated the arrival of Chinese troops and sabotaged the suspension bridge that they were using. The result explosion and collapse of the bridge almost completely destroyed the PLA force deployed to Hong Kong, but the Chinese soldiers regrouped and with the aid of a friendly ferry managed to destroy the Hong Kong Convention Center, and eliminate the GLA terror cell in the region. China's success in Hong Kong was short lived, as word arrived of a GLA assault at the base of the Three Gorges Dam. By the time the player arrived at the scene of the attack the GLA had nearly overran the entire base. Black Lotus, a Chinese special operations soldier, ordered the remaining Chinese forces to withdraw to the north where she ordered Three Gorges Dam destroyed. The destruction of the dam resulted in a massive wave that destroyed the advancing GLA forces and the GLA reinforcements that were moving across a bridge. Unfortunately, the destruction of the dam resulted in the lowering of water levels behind the dam which created a land bridge for GLA forces to use in an effort to attack the Chinese, but to no avail. After eliminating the GLA forces at Three Gorges Dam the player is ordered to the Tanggula Mountains, where a GLA bioweapon factory was nearing completion. The factory posed a threat to China, and an attack on the facility was authorized; however, due to the factory’s proximity to the Yangtze River and the nature of the biotoxins that could be inside, the attack had to be carried out with Chinese Migs, but before the Migs could bomb the factory the player had to eliminate several GLA Stinger Sites. With the Stinger sites gone a quartet of Chinese Migs appeared and used their napalm bombs to destroy the factory, with the napalm incinerating all the toxic material in the facility which would have otherwise leaked into the river. Chinese forces were next ordered to Balykchy, Kyrgyzstan, which had been overrun by GLA forces. Chinese forces were ordered to clear the GLA from the city using any means necessary. For this mission the Chinese gained help from the United States Air Force, who allowed the Chinese access to the American B-52 Bomber to conduct carpet bombings of GLA held strong holds. Chinese forces eventually emerged victorious, but the battle to recapture the city had resulted in many parts of it being badly damaged and/or destroyed. Following the liberation of Balykchy Chinese forces were ordered to Biskek, Aldastan. GLA forces in the area had commandeered one of China's railroad lines, and were using the trains to bring in reinforcements. Chinese forces were tasked with the elimination of a railroad bridge, which would prevent the GLA from using the trains. With the aid of a handful of PLA ground forces Black Lotus managed to sneak onto the railroad bridge and planted a powerful explosive charge. The explosives detonated just as an approaching train started across the bridge, and the resulting blast caused the bridge to collapse and the train to derail and crash into the river. The loss of the bridge prevented further GLA reinforcements to the region. Meanwhile, Chinese intelligence finally tracked the GLA attacks to a single base in Dashanbe, Tajikistan, (Aldastan Capital City). This cell was responsible for all GLA activity in the Asia-Pacific region. Chinese forces were ordered to eliminate the base and destroy all remnants of the GLA in the area. As Chinese forces approached the city through a mountain pass, GLA forces located on the cliffs of the mountain pass prepared to ambush them, in hopes of driving the Chinese from the region. With the aid of Jarmen Kell and several Scud Launchers, the GLA ambushed the Chinese and inflicted heavy losses on the group before being beaten back by the surviving PLA forces. PLA troops subsequently eliminated a GLA supply base before establishing their own base. Chinese forces began engaging the GLA forces, and with the aid of Nuclear Missiles finally overwhelmed the GLA in the region, eliminating the GLA threat to China. The collapse of the GLA forces in the region and the elimination of the Asia-Pacific Headquarters occasioned a parade through the city streets, with hundreds turning out to cheer for the victorious Chinese soldiers.
Zero Hour - Note: It is recommend that you read the USA Story and the GLA story before reading this story, as the Chinese story concludes the events of Zero Hour.
The loss of US Central Command and the subsequent withdrawal of US Forces from Europe came as shocking news to the Chinese, and this news prompted the Chinese to action against the GLA. The first stop for Chinese forces was the US Central Command. Since the captured Chinese base and its resources had been used in the assault, the Chinese sought to avenge their connection to the collapse of the US base. Chinese forces unleashed a nuclear attack on the celebrating GLA soldiers, killing many GLA troops and destroying several US structures captured by the GLA before launching a full scale land invasion of the base. GLA forces fought to save the base, but were ultimately overwhelmed by the power of the People's Liberation Army. This article or section does not cite its references or sources. ...
In retaliation for the strike against the GLA-controlled US base GLA forces in China launched a massive strike against a commercial Chinese nuclear power plant. This incursion prompted the Chinese to dispatch a garrison of troops to the region to eliminate the GLA threat. Although the Chinese were unable to protect their initial base from the GLA assault they were able to hold of the GLA until reinforcements were flown to the site. With these reinforcements the Chinese drove the GLA out of the area and resecured the reactor. Chinese authorities then turned their attention to a GLA occupied Europe, resolving to find and crush the remaining GLA forces and liberate the various European countries before the GLA can retaliate. Chinese forces begin their liberation by crushing GLA erected monuments in Coburg, Germany, resulting in the defeat of the GLA forces in the area and a boost in faith from the international community. Beaten, but not defeated, the GLA forces in Germany begin a retreat through Halberstad in the hopes of connecting with other GLA forces to help beat back the Chinese; however, China's intelligence agency caught on to this plan and establishes a helicopter base at Halberstad to prevent the retreating GLA forces from reinforcing other GLA bases. Although GLA forces fought valiantly all of their attempts to flee ended in failure. The GLA forces, now severely weakened and desperate to beat the Chinese, retreat to their last European stronghold near Hamburg with the People's Liberation Army hot on their heels. In an effort to prevent the Chinese from overwhelming their position the GLA also capture an abandoned US military base in the region, converting its various units and structures to the GLA cause. Ultimately even this measure proves futile, and the GLA are completely annihilated in the battle. With the GLA gone for good, and the US no longer a part of Europe, China approaches the European nations offering economic deals and strategic defense treaties to protect their new found territory. With NATO now a political afterthought, China gains new respect in the eyes of the rest of the world, which now looks to them rather than the USA for leadership, culminated in the formation of the new Eurasian Unity League.
