The Chinese Football Association Super League (中国足球协会超级联赛 or 超级联赛 or 中超) or Chinese Super League or China Super League, known as the CSL, is the premier league of Chinese football (soccer), under the auspices of the Chinese Football Association. The striker (wearing red jersey) has run past the defender (in white jersey) and is about to take a shot at the goal, while the goalkeeper positions himself to stop the ball. ... The Chinese Football Association was founded in January 1955 and its headquaters is located in Beijing. ...


There is also a first-division league (at a lower level than the premier league CSL), which does not seem to have a standard English name but may be called the Chinese Football Association Jia League.


The CSL was founded in 2004 as a replacement for the previous Division I (Jia A, or 甲A) league, with 12 teams in the league. The inaugural season was plagued with great controversy, causing Siemens to not renew its multi-million dollar sponsorship of the league. The start of the second season in 2005 had to be delayed a month in order to find new sponsors. 2004 is a leap year starting on Thursday of the Gregorian calendar. ... For the 2005 season, the league expanded to 14 teams as Wuhan Huanghelou and Zhuhai Zhongbang won promotion from the Jia League. The Zhuhai team, formerly Zhuhai Anping, had been bought by the Shanghai Zhongbang real estate company and relocated to Shanghai for the 2005 season.

The idea for the Football Association Challenge Cup (the FA Cup) came from the secretary of the FA, Charles Alcock, who proposed his plans at a meeting of the FA Committee in July 1871.

The Chinese Football Association Super League, also known as the Chinese Super League and as the CSL, is the premier football league in China, operating under the auspices of the Chinese Football Association.
A second tier league, which may be called the Chinese Football Association Jia League (Jia means first or 'A' in Chinese), exists and promotion and relegation take place between the two leagues (Although no relegation took place so far in two seasons while promotions carry on as usual in an effort to expand the league).
In 2006, the league was planned to expand to 16 teams with the newly promoted Xiamen Lanshi and Changchun Yatai, however, Sichuan Guancheng withdrew before the start of the season, leaving only 15 teams when the season started on March 11th.
